Rebuilding post Hurricane Zeta
One of the most cherished parks in the City of Gulfport was heavily damaged during Hurricane Zeta.
Jones Park is currently closed as repairs are underway. You might be wondering what will happen to the park’s newest attraction Zeta brought along with a boat resting on the fence of the harbor.
A contractor is coming out to restore the marina and move the boat. Although the city is not taking care of the removal of the vessel, that is the responsibility of the owner.
The same goes for debris removal if you have debris ready for pickup, it needs to be on public property, the city cannot touch it if it is on your own property.
The well-being of Jones Park is in the hands of the leisure services department which takes care of over 600 acres of parks and recreational areas. City of Gulfport Public Information Officer LaShaundra McCarty said, “So our parks and trails, all of them, fall into one department as well as the sportsplex. So, they’re actually trying to bring all of the entities back at the same time and that’s a lot of work for the crew to do.”
There is no solid timeline for when Jones Park will be reopened.
