Are you ready for Fat Tuesday?
With the City of Biloxi’s preparations for their annual Fat Tuesday festivities nearly complete, city officials have a few tips for those planning on attending.
Over 40,000 people attended the Krewe of Neptune parade in Biloxi earlier this weekend. An equal, if not larger, crowd is expected to be present when the Gulf Coast Carnival Association kicks things off tomorrow afternoon.
With celebrations taking place across the Coast, Vincent Creel with the City of Biloxi tells News 25 that getting to and from the event safely and being prepared to handle the large crowds is the key to a successful Mardi Gras. “We want to let everybody know on Tuesday, regardless of what parade you’re going to, remember this: give yourself plenty of time. You’ve got thousands of other people that are looking to do the same thing you’re doing. If you’re bringing a child to the parade with you please remember what that child is wearing. The other thing we want to ask is put your name and phone number on a card and put it in their pocket in case you become separated.”
The Gulf Coast Carnival Association’s annual parade can be traced all the way back to 1908 when it featured 17 floats. This year’s parade is sitting just short of 100 with 99 floats.
