Read across America Week

Harrison County School District students will be found with their nose in a book this week as they celebrate Read across America Week.
There will be activities all week at schools like Harrison Central Elementary School. Each day will follow a theme of a Dr. Seuss book. Today’s book was “Oh the Places You’ll Go” which led to students dressing up as their favorite career. Tuesday students will be reading to younger students. Wednesday, the Shuckers kick off their Hit the Books campaign at local elementary schools. Thursday there will be a Dr. Seuss parade.
This is all meant to show students the importance of reading. Harrison Central Elementary Library Media Specialist Amanda Bradley said, “I feel that at the age group we work with, that’s kindergarten through third grade, it’s important for us to instill in them now the importance of reading because once they leave us, if they don’t have that foundation, it’s hard to get it.”
Also to help the students kick off Read across America Week, students from a local middle school also read to several classes.
