Rapiscan Systems Classic returns to the Gulf Coast this weekend

A lot has changed since 2019, but after two years away due to COVID-19, the Rapiscan Systems Classic is finally returning to the Mississippi Gulf Coast this weekend.

One of those changes being this year’s new location at Grand Bear Golf Course in Saucier as opposed to Fallen Oak also in Saucier.

One thing that hasn’t changed, Kevin Sutherland is still the defending champion, having won a thrilling seven-hole playoff that turned a typical three-day tournament into a four-day pressure cooker.

Sutherland returning to defend his title with plenty of fond Mississippi memories already rushing back. “What I remember most is the playoff. It was pretty dark on Sunday night when we finished the fifth playoff hole, and then the next day was very cold. I think the tournament was very glad that it actually ended at some point. I think they wish it would have ended on Sunday night, but it was all good. I had a few wins after Mississippi. And I kind of feel like it almost propelled me a little bit that way. I won later that year again, but I feel like it gave me a lot of confidence.”

Tournament play begins Friday morning with the pro-am teeing off tomorrow.
