Rally for Recovery

A rally in Ocean Springs on Saturday gave Gulf Coast residents a chance to learn more and talk about mental health and addiction issues.

The ‘Rally for Recovery’ at Marshall Park brought together around 40 mental health programs from 13 different states as a way for people to learn more about a wide range of mental health issues and find helpful information.

Event Organizer Greg Bufkin says one of the goals of the event is to erase the stigma surrounding mental health. “Let’s tear down the stigma and just say it like this. Every family out there is affected by mental health and addiction in one shape, form, or fashion or another. So, when we stop feeling like ‘I’m the only one, I can’t tell people,’ just because families aren’t talking about it doesn’t mean they’re not dealing with it.”

This is the third year the rally has been held. Bufkin says it continues to grow.
