Quick Action Contains Propane Leak in Harrison County

Residents off of Pecan and Vidalia Road are safe this morning from a propane tank leak. Harrison County Fire and Rescue responded yesterday afternoon, to a leaking 250 gallon propane tank at a cell tower. Fire crews used a special sealant to stop the leak and advised the owner to have repair crews remove the tank. It took Harrison County firefighters about 30 minutes to bring it under control. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Chief Shoultz with Harrison County Fire and Rescue shares a word of caution if you should come in contact with a similar situation.

“Whenever you discover or if you discover a leaking gas cyclinder of any type the first thing you should do is leave the area leave the area and call 911.
What you don’t want to do is remain in the area trying to detect the problem detect the leak or detect the source let trained emergency responders get to the area and let them make those decisions,” Chief Shoultz said.

No residents had to be evacuated during the operation to contain the leak.
