Qualifying Tournament for MGRC

Some of the best senior golfers in the world teed off in Diamondhead today competing for five playing spots in this weekend’s Gulf Resort Classic golf tournament. Forty of the 65 players who advanced from the pre-qualifier on Friday took part in the open qualifier today at Diamondhead County Club’s Pine Course.
Part of the PGA Tour Champions, this year’s lineup includes an extensive list of world class golfers. Names like Guy Boros, with three Nationwide Tour event wins, and Keith Clearwater, two time tournament winner on the PGA Tour, all vying for one of the five spots.
Gulf States PGA Tournament Director Patrick Murphy said, “The top thirty all-time money winners get exempt into the tournament and at this point, I think it’s something like $13 million over your career that you have to earn to get exempt into a tournament. So, people like Skip Kendall, who’s won $9 million over his career, which is a huge amount, but he’s out here qualifying just like some of the others.”
Five players from today’s tournament will move on to play in the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic starting Friday.
