Pump Station Causes Sewage Spill on HWY 90

A sewage spill caused a big stink on Highway 90 in Biloxi this morning, but city leaders tell News 25 it’s all cleaned up now.
This morning, we talked with a driver who told us sewage was spurting out of a manhole on HWY 90 near the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel. He said the spewing mess was dirtying up cars traveling in the eastbound lanes of the highway earlier this morning. Howard Page, with the Steps Coalition, said, “there was a manhole cover that actually had brown sewage percolating up through the manhole cover about 6 inches high. You could see the white toilet paper out and you could see it draining down the street. So, it was a horrible odor and you could clearly see that it was not just clear sewage but actually brown sewage, so it was really, really bad.”
City leaders tell News 25 a pump station in the area was down this morning, but crews were on the scene soon after it was reported.
They aren’t sure just how much sewage leaked out, but tell us it wasn’t a big enough amount to report to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.
