Public Meeting on Gulf of Mexico Drilling

Dozens of men and women took a stand against offshore drilling leases this afternoon in Gulfport.
The Obama administration recently released its proposed five year offshore drilling plan for the years 2017 to 2022.
Tonight, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management held a public forum to get input on the Gulf of Mexico Multisale Environmental Impact statement.
Ecological economist Sharon Hayes tells News 25 with as many oil spills that occur in the Gulf of Mexico, she’s rallying to put a stop to drilling in our waters. “There are a lot of assumptions that don’t make much sense and it really supports a no lease, no drill option as opposed to drilling for 10 new wells. The gulf is so sick and so polluted that I’m afraid it’s going to be the nail in the coffin.”
If you would like your voice to be heard on the offshore drilling plan, you can still submit your opinions to www.regulations.gov by June 7th.
