Public invited to ‘Stop the Violence’

A local group fed up with the violence along the Mississippi Gulf Coast is inviting the public to come together to try and do something about it.
Two Moss Point shootings in two days, two weekend shootings including a 16-year-old dead in Gulfport, a Pass Christian man beat to death, and a woman shot dead in Gautier last week, all acts of violence a local group called Gulfport Concerned Citizens hopes to address at the public forum happening this Thursday evening.
Organizers hope concerned citizens from all over the Gulf Coast come to join in on the conversation. Abra Taylor with Gulfport Concerned Citizens said, “One of the major things that comes to my mind is a lot of the violence that’s happening, it’s happening to our youth. The youth is our future and of course with the youth dying young, that’s our future that’s dying as well.”
The forum will include a panel discussion with educators, elected officials, and law enforcement speaking out on the issue. It will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Good Deeds Community Center in Gulfport.
