Protest Against Religious Rights Bill
Noise at the state Capitol today as protesters are expected to rally outside of the governor’s mansion.
The Human Rights Campaign, the ACLU of Mississippi, and LGBT equality advocates are urging Governor Phil Bryant to veto a bill that would allow government employees and private business people to cite religious beliefs against gay marriage to withhold services from people.
Supporters of the bill say the legislation is meant to protect those who don’t want to violate their beliefs, but opponents say it promotes discrimination.
Georgia’s governor recently vetoed a similar bill.
