Protecting your pets during loud 4th of July celebrations

Pets can also get scared during 4th of July celebrations. Many don’t like the loud fireworks.

The Jackson County Animal Shelter is already about at max capacity, but they’re expecting to take in even more on July 5th, one of their biggest intake days.

That’s because so many animals run off during the 4th of July celebrations.

The shelter suggests making sure your pet has an ID tag and is microchipped, that’s something they do for only $15.

Also try to keep them in a quiet, secure space surrounded by their favorite toys and treats. Keep them distracted with television, music, or a white noise machine.

Medication from your vet may also be an option.

Do whatever you can to help keep your fur babies at home and safe. Maridee Mallette with the Jackson County Animal Shelter said, “4th of July and New Years are the two worst days for us because of fireworks. They get scared, dig under, jump over your fence. They’ll break through windows. So, you need to go ahead and prepare now.”

If you pet does happen to escape, call your local shelter immediately. If they’re microchipped, they can easily scan it and contact you.
