Protecting people, pipes, and pets in cold weather

With temperatures on the Coast falling into the 20s tonight and freeze warnings in effect for some areas, it’s a good time to take precautions to protect pipes, pets, plants, and people.

Bring your pets inside tonight. If that’s not possible, make sure they have enough shelter to keep them warm.

To avoid your pipes from bursting make sure your faucets are dripping slightly to prevent them from freezing.

Wear layers of lightweight clothing to stay warm. Gloves and a hat also help prevent body heat from escaping.

Make sure you know the signs of hypothermia: confusion, dizziness, exhaustion, and severe shivering.
