Problems at the Poll
If you had problems voting in yesterday’s presidential primary, the Harrison County Election Commission says a number of factors could have contributed to any confusion.
You have to be registered 30 days prior to the election. You must vote in the precinct in which you live. If you didn’t participate in the last two federal elections, you could be deemed inactive on voter rolls. Even with an inactive status, you can still vote by casting an affidavit ballot.
The Harrison County Election Commission wants to remind voters they never want to turn anyone down. Harrison County Election Commission Chair Becky Payne said, “I’ll be honest with you, people change their driver’s license when they move, when they get married they change their name, they change their social security but it’s not something that registers that ‘I need to change my voter registration’.”
Payne says to make sure you’re participating in all civic processes, such as jury duty and voting. If a jury summons is returned “undeliverable,” you could be made inactive.
General questions about voting can be answered by contacting your county’s circuit clerk.
