All prisoners being moved from Parchman

Governor Tate Reeves announced efforts to reform one of Mississippi’s most dangerous prisons.

The governor says prisoners from the State Penitentiary at Parchman infamous Unit 29 will be transferred to the nearby Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility.

Nearly 400 inmates from the unit have already been transferred following the initial surge of violence and the remaining prisoners will be moved in the upcoming weeks.

While the move is only temporary, officials are searching for a long-term solution.

The latest efforts come as the 18th inmate was found dead in Mississippi prisons in recent months.
