Preparing for a hard freeze
If you’ve been outside today you already know that it’s cold, but we haven’t seen the lowest temperatures yet as a hard freeze is settling in across the United States.
Be sure to take steps to prepare your home for the extreme conditions. First move any potted plants inside and remember to keep your faucets running just enough to prevent pipes from bursting. You should also keep your heating unit at a comfortable yet reasonable temperature to avoid overworking the system.
Watch for ice on roads and keep in mind that wind chill will also be a big factor this week and layer up before you head out the door. Harrison County EMA Director Rupert Lacy said, “It’s gonna be cold. The hard freeze warning is issued now until Wednesday. The National Weather Service says it is going to be Friday that they will probably re-issue it. So, we’re looking at sub-freezing temperatures for another three, four, or five days, we may not see warm temperatures until about Sunday.”
