Preparations underway for Fort Bayou Drawbridge closure in Ocean Springs

Ocean Springs is preparing for the impending Fort Bayou Drawbridge closure which is scheduled to take place at the mid-point of this month.

MDOT has announced the bridge will be closed to replace bridge shafts and is expected to last around 45 days.

In the meantime, the city is notifying residents of detour routes through Highway 57 and Highway 90 through the Biloxi Bay Bridge.

City officials are working with the Chamber of Commerce and Mississippi State Extension Service to provide a map and other closure details to the public and are hopeful more signage can be displayed to warn motorists once the closure takes place. Ocean Springs Ward 2 Alderman Rickey Authement said, “People are just going to have to be patient. Once the bridge is finished it’s going to be a really great project, you know they’re really at the mercy of the engineers. Hopefully everything goes smoothly so it doesn’t last six weeks.”

The city will release more information on the status of the bridge once its made available by MDOT.
