PreK4Ward in Gulfport Prepares Kids for Kindergarten

Recent studies are showing how important Pre-Kindergarten classes are for four year olds and their development.

Pre-K4Worward is a program along the Coast that helps families get their children the education they need before entering kindergarten for free. Tuesday, the program opened its seventh class in Gulfport at the First United Methodist Church. Organizers say it wouldn’t be possible without private donations and the partnership with the church and Climb C.D.C.

Cynthia Minton Walker, Project Director of Pre-K4Ward, says, “We believe that this is important and after seeing what our children who left our program last year and took that assessment we mentioned earlier their scoring, we know it’s successful and getting kids ready to learn.”

Walker says the Pre-k4Ward program will help children reach the 3rd grade reading level needed to comply with the new Mississippi gate law.
