Power out after lightning strikes a powerline on Lindh Road

There were some tense moments for some Gulfport residents after lightning strikes in the area.

Severe weather caused trees to topple over, bringing down high-power voltage lines. Grass in the area caught fire, endangering a nearby home.

The Gulfport Police and Fire Department are actively working the scene to extinguish hot spots and regulate traffic while Mississippi Power technicians are working to restore power to the area. Traffic is delayed from Switzer to Pass Road.

According to Gulfport Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt it will be several hours until power is restored.
