Potential Boat Slip Rate Increase for Biloxi

The City of Biloxi is still in discussion about potentially raising the boat slip rates at the Small Craft Harbor and Point Cadet Marina.
Local boat owners are up in arms over the potential rate increase. They voiced their opinions today to the Biloxi City Council. The rate of $6 per foot will remain the same, but the proposed fee will be based on either the size of the boat from bow to stern or on the size of the slip used, whichever is larger.
There is also a proposed change to transient slip fees as well. Boat slip renter Greg Bowers said, “When they do that, I’m going to go on. I’m not going to stop and stay here for two or three days. I’m not going to buy fuel here. I’m not going to eat in the restaurants. Speaking as a long-term transient, that’s not going to work. I’ve been here permanently now, I’ve had a slip for four years here. My boat has been in it less than two years so I have experience at being a transient.”
Biloxi City Council members say they will continue to review the issue but have a long road ahead before coming to an agreement.
