Portion of Highway 603 in Hancock County named after Lt. Michael Boutte

February 1st marked one year since the tragic death of Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Michael Boutte, who was shot and killed in the line of duty.

Today, his community honored Lt. Boutte by naming a portion of Highway 603 after him. The segment that starts at Highway 603’s intersection with Mississippi Highway 43 and extends north to its intersection with Rocky Hill Dedeaux Road is now known as Lt. Deputy Michael Anthony Boutte Sr. Memorial Highway.

Sheriff Ricky Adam says today was an extra special day for those that worked alongside of and loved Lt. Boutte. “It feels real special for myself and for our guys and our ladies. They were all close, especially the ones on his shift. They were in attendance today. It was a special feeling. I hope they remember him for his smile and his dedication to his job and to our county and his professionalism, but most of all just as a great human being.”

Lt. Boutte was an Air Force Veteran. He had served with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office for eight years and had previously served with the United States Marine Corps Civilian Police.
