Port of Gulfport’s Future

Members of the longshoreman’s union are becoming restless as they wait for promised jobs from the port expansion to materialize.
So far, only 98 jobs have been added, leaving more than 1,000 jobs to be filled. Tonight, the proposed Port of Gulfport expansion project was on display for the community to see and have the opportunity to express their concerns and opinions on the project.
Darius Johnson, president of International Longshoremen’s Association, was in attendance to hear information on possible union jobs. “I’ve been in close conversations with Jonathan Daniels pretty much throughout this process. I know it’s kind of tough on him as well as it is on us but we do believe he’s going to bring these tenants in and the longshoremen will get back to work.”
If you weren’t able to make tonight’s public forum, you can search for the Port of Gulfport draft on Mobile District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website and send in your comments.
