Port of Gulfport receives $15.7 million grant
There are brighter days ahead for the Port of Gulfport thanks to a nearly $16 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Local and port officials were on hand today for the presentation of the grant money, which will be used to provide critical infrastructure support at the port.
United States Maritime Administrator Admiral Mark Buzby formally presented the check to the Port of Gulfport, allowing them to improve the roadways leading to and from the entrance to the port and also create a bridge over Highway 90 for port traffic, which serves all freight and military cargo.”Ports these days are intermodal, you know, it’s not just the ship coming alongside, but how easily you move your cargo in and out of that port, this project addresses that.”
The Port of Gulfport was one of 15 projects awarded grants. Work on the project is expected to be completed in late 2022.
