Port City FC Under-23 team

Some of the younger soccer players from the Mississippi Gulf Coast took center stage with Port City FC.

While the Sounders compete in the Gulf Coast Premiere League, their under-23 team competes against other young clubs in the area.

The under-23s are coached by the same staff as the Sounders and give younger high school and college players an opportunity to travel and play in the off season.

Port City Head Coach Henrik Madsen tells News 25 that the growing trend of younger teams is a good thing to see. “The U-23s are a growing thing inside the GCPL. There are five clubs with a U-23 team so it is just a great chance to get more players some playing time out here and it’s perfect because we can hook into the community and play like SMC or Gulf Coast United here locally so that’s great.”

Port City returns home next Saturday night at 7 p.m. to take on Hattiesburg.
