Popps Ferry extension project

The extension of Popps Ferry Road in Biloxi to Highway 90 is now underway.

The 10 billion dollar project has been in the works for years, but surveyors now have boots on the ground working towards the next steps. The proposed roadway will be four lanes with a raised median and turning lanes. It will also include a ten foot multi-use path on one side and a five walk sidewalk on the opposite side.

Biloxi Chief Administrative Officer Mike Leonard tells News 25 this project is the most important economic development project going on the city right now. “You will see an old Walmart sitting completely vacant and there are developers that are interested in developing that property, but they are not going to do it until there is a traffic count that will support their efforts. There is a closed grocery store right behind us and we will get that grocery store back, but they are going to look for a traffic count.”

Construction is set to start in 2020.
