Popp’s Ferry Elementary hosting drive-thru meet and greet

In just nine days, South Mississippi youngsters will report to their very first day of class for the 2020-2021 school year at Popp’s Ferry Elementary School.

Today, some incoming kindergarteners had the chance to meet their teachers and the school’s new principal Dr. Vivian Malone at a drive-thru socially distant meet and greet at the Biloxi school.

Unlike most years, parents won’t get to walk their kids in on their first day of school as kindergarteners, but on this day, the rainy weather didn’t seem to dampen the kids or their parents’ enthusiasm as they made their way through the line. Dr. Malone said, “We decided to have a drive-by where they can drop off supplies and meet their teachers this way. This is a different year. Your students will have to have on a mask every day. We’re still going to be learning every day. Learning has not stopped. We’re still teaching and we’re still learning every day.”

As a reminder, the deadline for registration at Popp’s Ferry Elementary School is July 31st. If your child is not registered by then he or she will be delayed starting the new school year.
