Popp’s Ferry Elementary Honors Veterans

Students at Popp’s Ferry Elementary honored veterans this morning at an assembly but that was only the beginning.
After the assembly, the veterans were led down a Parade of Honor. Students lined the hallways, holding signs, thanking the veterans and currently enlisted men and women for everything they’ve done. You could also hear cheers of “U-S-A” as the veterans gave high fives to the kids as they walked by.
The parade is just one way the school is teaching students about the importance of honoring veterans. Principal Todd Boucher said, “We did it last year as we were prepping for the state tests. We had kind of a pep rally parade and some of the teachers thought it would be a great idea to put together a little parade for our veterans and honor them and cheer them on as they walked through the school. I think it’s extremely important, especially in the community that we live in with so many military families and with the Seabee Base being so close by and the Air Force Base. It is extremely important that students know of the sacrifices that so many have given to our country.”
After the Parade of Honor, veterans were invited to stay for breakfast with the students.
