Popps Ferry Causeway Plans

Also at tonight’s City Council meeting, officials are discussing how to finalize upgrades to Popps Ferry Causeway Park, a project that’s been in the works for more than a decade.
Plans call for additional boardwalks, a pavilion, and a botanical garden. Design work could be completed in six to eight months and construction could be underway by the end of the year. The project would be funded with $4.2 million of BP money provided by the state.
Biloxi Public Affairs Director Vincent Creel said, “It’s a very beautiful area in Biloxi. It’s a very sensitive area and it’s a high profile area. What we want to do is make sure that the public can enjoy that area and we’re doing that by adding more boardwalks along the waterfront. We’re going to have a nature interpretive center that tells them about the important wildlife that inhabits that area, as well as the native plants.”
The Department of Environmental Quality needs to sign off on the project before the council can vote on it. Voting is set for the meeting on February 16th.[mappress mapid=”2149″]
