Police Upset Over Recent Shootings
A fatal shooting over the weekend marks the fifth homicide in Gulfport this year.
Police Chief Leonard Papania says Saturday’s killing on 34th Avenue was the result of a drug deal gone bad.
Furthermore, police say Sundays shooting at Ashton Park Apartments was the matter of a man trying to protect his girlfriend and toddler.
In a press conference this morning, a visibly upset Chief Papania said the city’s killings do not reflect the good image of Gulfport, but a criminal subculture which is tarnishing it.
