Pledge Of Allegiance Legislation
“Say the pledge or pay the price.” That is the message behind a new bill in Jackson.
Republican Representative William Shirley is the main legislator sponsoring House Bill 205. The bill would fine schools $1,500 if they don’t say the Pledge of Allegiance within the first hour of class each day.
HB 205 actually amends the Mississippi Code of 1972 which provides stipulations on the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools as well as when and where to present the flag on school grounds.
Shirley is a representative for District 84, which covers Clark, Jackson and Newton counties.
