Plastics affecting local sea life
The Gulf of Mexico is one of the area’s most beneficial resources. It is important that we take good care of it.
Enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the Earth four times. A lot of that plastic ends up in the water and wreaks havoc on marine life.
Veterinary Pathologist Tim Morgan says small changes can have a huge impact on the ocean and the creatures who call the water home. “Small things when you go to the beach, making sure you don’t leave plastics, that you limit your use of drinking straws and things like that which can cause problems for both dolphins and sea turtles and make sure we are not polluting the environment. I think it is a very good thing that we can do to help and it’s something everyone can do. It is not that hard. Just don’t take garbage to the beach and throw it away and pick it up if you see something on the beach. It really does have an impact on both of these species.”
