Planning for the future
Gulfport Orange Grove Rotary Club members not only know the meaning of good will, they show it in the many service projects they carry out here in our local community, including the group’s ongoing drive to put dictionaries in the hands of our young people.
Rotary Club of Gulfport Orange Grove members meet once a week, but those rotarians bring something to the table year round, especially when it comes to equipping our local schools and youth with what they need to be successful inside the classroom and beyond. Rotary Club of Gulfport Orange Grove Dr. Cassandra Conner said, “That’s why I joined this club because we do a lot of projects for education. We focus on the Orange Grove community. We’re trying to bring businesses together. We focus on children. Children are one of our very special needs. We like to do community projects.”
These rotarians head up plenty of them from the Little Free Libraries they have perched outside of local schools so kids can borrow, return, and even keep books to sowing seeds of love around Arbor Day and the Christmas holiday season. “We do a Christmas for Kids project where we give students who are needy at Christmas a little bit of money to spend and buy some things they may not have at Christmas time,” said Dr. Conner.
History repeats itself as the Gulfport Orange Grove rotarians gear up for another dictionary give away at local schools. “Right now we are getting ready to hand out dictionaries to some of the third graders in Harrison County schools. Not only do we give the dictionary to them, we also give them a little lesson on how to use the dictionaries.”
All it takes is one person to change the world, just imagine what this group of rotarians can do.
