Planning and Development Conference in Biloxi

Helping small businesses, motivating entrepreneurs and spurring innovation in our region were topics of conversation at this year’s Association of Planning and Development Districts Conference.
Planning officials from all over the state of Mississippi gathered at the Beau Rivage today for the third day of the conference. Jay Williams, the U.S. assistant secretary of commerce for economic development, spent the day touring the Coast, visiting places they’ve made investments in in our region. He was the keynote speaker for today’s luncheon, providing a face to face discussion with local leaders about where future investments on our Coast should go. “The other thing is to talk to the partners about what their priorities are. We don’t dictate what is in the best interest of any local community. It’s really going to be a listening session to hear from them about what do they see as the short and immediate term priorities. What do they see as some of the long term priorities? There are clearly only nine or so months left in this administration but we want to institutionalize and build upon the successes that we’ve had with these districts for the past seven plus years,” said Williams.
The conference wraps up tomorrow with a closing breakfast at 9:30.
