Piers reopen in Gulfport

Hurricane Nate pounded the Gulf Coast in October and left behind multiple damaged piers in Gulfport.

The winds and waves from the storm ripped out wooden planks and tore up other sections of the pier. After nine months of repairs, all piers have been reopened. Libby Milner Roland Pier, Urie Pier, and Ken Combs Pier are safe to use again.

Eight-year-old fisherman Micah Jones tells News 25 even though the fishing has not been that great this morning, he is excited to see the piers reopen.  “Not that great. We got one fish. These piers got broke down because of the hurricane. I can finally get on the piers and fish. Whenever you are throwing off the piers you can throw into deeper waters.”

One section of Ken Combs Pier is still blocked off for repairs, but is expected to be completed soon.
