Picayune Main Street and Mississippi Power team up for beautification projects
There was a ribbon cutting Monday afternoon in Picayune for a new parking lot with several handicapped spaces across the street from City Hall.
But the story is bigger than this one parking lot. Picayune Main Street has undertaken several projects to beautify and modernize downtown Picayune.
They’ve opened a couple of other parking lots, removed old signs from businesses, helped business owners with cleaning their building façade and are having several murals painted around town. It’s all in an effort to make Picayune more business friendly.
Mississippi Power assisted Picayune Main Street’s efforts by providing community investment grants the last two years to help with these efforts. Mississippi Power Area Manager Jason Favre said, “Yes we do provide a clean, efficient and safe product that ensures that your lights come on and you turn them on and your air conditioner and your heater runs, we also give back to the communities that we serve. Quite frankly, we’re citizens in all these communities as well. We want to see them shine. We want to see them profitable. We want to see more residents live in these cities. so, this is a way to give back to really help our communities.”
