Petal Hoops Phenom to Sign with USM

Kennedy Gavin of the Petal Panthers is putting pen to paper tomorrow, but she’s staying close to home at Southern Miss.
The senior standout passed on offers from 17 other Division I programs, including a few from the SEC, making the 6’1” power forward a huge addition to the Lady Eagles. Pascagoula Head Girls Basketball Coach Crisla Herchenhahn coached Gavin at Petal. She says, “Look, I had the pleasure of knowing Kennedy since she was in the eighth grade and helped coach and develop her through the process and watch her grow, not just as a player, but as a kid and just a young lady. I couldn’t be more proud of her and her accomplishing her goals. The fact that she stayed true to what she wanted and that was with her commitment to USM and what she’ll be able to do there to be around her family.”
The Lady Eagles won their only exhibition match of the season on Election night, taking down Mississippi College 91-73. They inked five players today on the first day of the early signing period.
