Permit Issued for La Quinta Inn in Biloxi
The permit for the new La Quinta Inn and Suites Hotel is issued and all ready for construction in Biloxi.
City officials tell News 25 the development permit issued for the hotel marks a milestone for Biloxi. The Biloxi City Council has heard a lot of differing opinions on the 67 suite hotel going up right near the historic district. Seal Avenue residents were concerned it would take away from the historic value of their neighborhood.
At the end of 2015, city officials say Biloxi had 6,800 hotel rooms. 2016’s wrap up will increase that number to 7,300 hotel rooms for tourists to stay in. City of Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “That’s a pretty big jump for us, when you look at this day in age with the economy and everything the way it is, and most importantly they are non-casino resort hotels. That’s a segment of our market that we lost with Hurricane Katrina.”
Margaritaville and the Hyatt Place Hotel have helped the number of non-casino hotel rooms to rise.
Biloxi officials say construction on La Quinta is scheduled to start mid-January.
