Performance Audit Report Presented to Diamondhead Council

Tension among city officials prompted a performance audit on the City of Diamondhead looking into government operations.
Today, the director of the Office of Performance Audit in the State Auditor’s Office, Samantha Atkinson, presented her preliminary findings to the council, other city officials and the public.
Atkinson admired the city’s communication skills and told the council overall they’re doing a great job, stating that it’s been a long time since she’s been in a local government of any sort that has had so few problems.
Diamondhead City Manager Clovis Reed said, “The mayor had made some allegations of mishandling of funds. We just wanted to clear the slate and make sure that we were doing everything properly. We want to make sure that we’re transparent in our actions. I was glad to hear the auditor come back and have a lot of positive statements that we’re not breaking any laws, we’re following council policy, that overall we’re operating very well.”
Atkinson will share the results and recommendations to be made in the formal report due later this fall.
