Pedestrian hit by train in Pascagoula

Jackson County investigators continue to look into a fatal train versus pedestrian accident in Pascagoula.
Police say a woman was walking near railroad tracks on 14th Street when she was hit and killed by a CSX train. The incident happened around 3:30 this afternoon underneath the overpass.
Train safety remains a constant concern all along the Coast after Biloxi’s bus versus train accident on Main Street last week.
Lieutenant Doug Adams with the Pascagoula Police Department says this is not the first fatal accident at this specific railroad crossing, but he certainly hopes that it’s the last. “We preach all the time about stop, look, and listen. The conductors, they’re blowing their whistles and horns. You know, you’ve got to be extremely careful. The trains cannot stop on a dime. People have said that a million times and this is a good example of that today.”
Pascagoula police, Pascagoula fire, and the Jackson County Coroner’s Office all responded to the scene. Police plan to release more information about the victim on Friday.
