Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office deploying automated license plate reader

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)-The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office announces the upcoming deployment of automated license plate reader systems.

These cameras will be positioned at or near high-traffic public intersections and public roads.

According to the department, the system operates as a passive safety tool, capturing license plates to cross reference against active databases for stolen vehicles, violent felony warrants, and missing person alerts.

The cameras are being integrated into the department’s ongoing public safety strategy.

If a camera does detect a car tied to known crime or a critical alert, officers receive a real-time notification to investigate.
