Pastors Host “Ashes To-Go”
Three local pastors made sure residents on the move received their ashes this morning for the beginning of lent.
News 25’s Laurene Callander reports on the ashes to go service in Long Beach.
A drive thru with a purpose…
Three pastors from three different churches come together in long beach on Ash Wednesday to provide ashes for those on the move.
“We come outside the walls of the church we’re out here where people can just drive by and we’ll have a quick prayer with them and do the imposition of ashes and they can go on their way having worshipped for just a brief moment.”
– Pastor Dave Parr Grace Lutheran Church
And the response from the drivers…
“Very convenient…it’s convenient for me just to come down here than to go to church and spend time away from my office.”
– Drew Savner Long Beach resident
“One driver was so thankful and full of gratitude they actually tried to tip one of the pastors for providing this service.”
– Laurene Callander News 25 @wxxvlaurene
“We’re here to remind us that life ends and our mortality is important and to remember to live our life to the very best that we can in the days that we do have.”
– Jim Hightower, Pastor
The pastors handed out ashes for over 100 vehicles along Highway 90 between 6:30 and 9am.
This is the fourth year of ashes to go…and after the continued success..will be back next year.
