Past and Present Unite in Moss Point

The Moss Point community unites past athletic history with the present during a special dedication before tonight’s football game.
Athletes from the former Magnolia High School football team took the field to present commemorative stickers to current Moss Point High football players.
The double M sticker on the back of each helmet represents the Mighty Monarchs. Athletes of the Mighty Monarchs excelled in various sports and produced champions at all levels.
The 1968 football team went undefeated. Lawrence Dubose from the Magnolia Monarchs undefeated football team said, “I’ll be glad when Moss Point really gets the legacy back and continues to win like they used to. That’s what we’re wishing and shooting and hoping for.”
Kenneth DeShields was also a player on the undefeated Magnolia Monarchs football team. He said, “Keep the tradition going. We had a winning tradition here in Moss Point. We didn’t believe in losing. We lost sometimes, but we didn’t lose often.”
The four Magnolia Monarchs representing the 1968 undefeated team were defensive end Kenneth DeShields, defensive tackle Jimmie Myles, center Lawrence Dubose Jr., and quarterback Evans Bell.
