Pass Christian, Long Beach student sections show out Thursday

Last night, Pass Christian and Long Beach got the high school football season started with the inaugural Coast Kickoff Classic.
It was the only Thursday night game in the area and the neighboring towns showed out accordingly. The Bearcats came back to beat the Pirates 27-14, but everybody wins in the battle of the student sections.
Both sides were in full chest paint attire for what they jokingly refer to as the Battle for Walmart. Pass Christian Junior Hayes Leyser said, “I think it’s a real big deal because we’re so close together. You know, they’re right over there. But I think we’ll have a good game.”
Long Beach Senior Justin Lindholm said, “Rivalry, I mean they’re next door to us. I’m a soccer player so we play them, we have a big rivalry in soccer with them as well, so it’s similar with some of their guys.”
Long Beach Senior Jillian Johnson said, “I just want to win the first game of the season. Yeah. (The only one, that’s it?) I mean I want to win all the games, but to win the first game would be good.”
Last night’s game marked the first regular season meeting between Pass and Long Beach since 2006.
