Pascagoula Gautier School District approves flex schedule for 2023-24 school year

Tuesday, Pascagoula Gautier School District approved the new flex calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.

With this new flex calendar, students will be attending 180 days a year and teachers working 187 days a year, meeting the requirements of state statues and law, but the difference is a flex calendar allows for more frequent breaks during the school year.

After each nine weeks, there would be a two-week break for students and staff with opportunities for extra academic support and enrichment. These breaks will be called intercessions. Pascagoula High Principal Dr. Caterria Payton said, “I am looking forward to the opportunities during those breaks where we can have remediation and enrichment and that teachers get to dive a little bit deeper than sometimes they are able to on a typical basis.”

Gautier Elementary Principal Dr. Elizabeth Bailey said, “I am excited for this new adventure. Our team is excited. One, it gives them flexibility. It also helps with giving intervention with our students instead of having to wait from the end of a school year to the beginning of a school year. We will be able to give instant intervention and enrichment for our kids.”

The flex calendar will start for students on July 20th with the last day of school being on May 30th, 2024.
