Palazzo Demands Secretary of Defense Halt Payback of National Guard Bonuses
Congressman Steven Palazzo demands an immediate stop to the recoupment of bonuses paid to members of the California National Guard. This comes after the Department of Defense asked for the return of these bonuses, in some cases, more than ten years after they were paid out.
Congressman Palazzo tells News 25 although the Secretary of Defense has halted the order he still wants answers in an effort to prevent this from happening to veterans in the future. “Many of them have multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s just not right to go back again years later. A lot of these people they’re out of the military and it’s just wrong. You don’t treat our veterans that way.”
Palazzo is also chairman of the Congressional National Guard and Reserve Component Caucus. He, along with 170 members of Congress, signed the letter to the Secretary of Defense.
