OSHA Fines Company in Worker Death
OSHA has cited a flooring company in the death of a contractor killed last year as he and his crew worked to restore a restaurant in the Kiln.
Fifty-four year-old Gary Berthelot was killed when floor above him collapsed on top of him. Officials say the falling concrete and other debris struck and trapped him. Berthelot was a father of four with 30 years of construction experience.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited subcontractor saying it was the builder’s failure to follow safety standards that led to the fatal outcome.
Great Southern Building Systems LLC was cited for one willful and two serious safety violations. Citations against Berthelot Design System were waived as the victim was the only employee of the company.
