Operation Homefront Event In Gulfport

Families of Service Members, Veterans, and Wounded Warriors May Register to Learn About and to Receive Healthy Foods from Operation Homefront

JACKSON, Mississippi — Operation Homefront will hold free Growing Healthy Military Families events in Jackson, Mississippi, and in Gulfport, Mississippi, designed to help military children to make healthy food choices.

The Jackson event will be held Saturday, March 12. The forum in Gulfport is scheduled for Saturday, March 19. Military families will learn the specific location and time when they register online by visiting www.operationhomefront.net and clicking on the “Upcoming Event” of their choice. The Growing Healthy Military Families events are open only to families that register online.

“Each Growing Healthy Military Families event is interactive and fun,” Operation Homefront Community Liaison Corey Conner said. “The children in particular will have an opportunity to taste and to discover fresh fruits and vegetables. Children also will receive a lunchbox that contains healthy meal items. Each event is a great way for children to learn about healthy eating. Additionally, the family can learn how to eat seasonally and save money as well as how to squeeze fitness into a busy schedule.”

Operation Homefront annually awards more than $4 million in emergency financial assistance grants — much of which pay for groceries — to the families of service members, veterans, and wounded warriors. Financial assistance is one of the ways in which Operation Homefront builds strong stable, and secure military families. The national nonprofit also offers caregiver support initiatives, back-to-school supplies, and programs that provide short-term transitional housing and mortgage-free homes.

About Operation Homefront: Operation Homefront leads more than 2,500 volunteers with nationwide presence who provide emergency and other financial assistance to the families of service members and wounded warriors.
