Opening a new chapter in the Woolmarket community

It’s an exciting day for the Woolmarket community as a new library is welcomed to the area.

Up until mid-2018, the library was housed in a 900 square foot mobile home near the fire station. People described it as ‘hanging on by a thread.’

The City of Biloxi purchased the new facility nearly three years ago for $250,000. This project is the effort of both the city and the Harrison County Board of Supervisors.

Local leadership says it’s been a long time coming and they are so happy to finally get it open to the public.  Ward 7 Councilman Nathan Barrett said, “It’s going to be a great asset to the community and it’s just one of the many things we are doing in Woolmarket in ward 7, and we are really excited about the future.”

Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich said, “We wanted to put this in service as fast as we could. Again, as I mentioned, the trailers they were in was not a very pleasant place to the do the library thing. This is a very nice, great facility. We call it the Woolmarket City Center.”

The library sits in half of the building. The other half will be a conference center.  The city plans to spend another $250,000 on the facility.
