One injured in Gulfport house fire on Martin Luther King Boulevard

This morning there was a house fire in Gulfport that injured one person.  The call came in just before 6 a.m.

Gulfport firefighters rushed to this tri-plex on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

When they got inside the building, they found one person who needed help getting out. That person was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Gulfport Fire Chief Billy Kelley says the man was at least conscious enough to write his name and date of birth down when he was rescued.

Neighbors woke up to the sight of the blaze and rushed over to see if they could help. Neighbor George Edward Ervin said, “Trying to get help to see if anybody was in there, his friends or brother. When they kicked the door in, ain’t nothing in there but a fire. That’s all I can tell you. It was orange all over. Everything was orange.”

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
