One dead, one critically injured in overnight shooting in Gulfport

Gulfport police are hunting down leads, trying to find the person responsible for a deadly overnight shooting.

Gulfport Police responded to the Emerald Pines Apartments off 39th Avenue around 12:30 this morning. That’s where they found two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said one victim, 27-year-old Brushawn McClam, who identified as a woman named Shawmayne, died at the scene. An autopsy will be performed Wednesday.

Switzer said the other victim, who is McClam’s sister, was taken to Memorial Hospital Gulfport where she is listed as critical. Her name has not been released. Essence Hall, the victim’s best friend, said, “Brushawn was always someone that was herself, she didn’t care about anybody. She always dressed the way she wanted to be, always danced the way, she was always just a free spirit person. Somebody that I look up to that no matter what, I need to always be myself.”

Police are trying to identify a suspect. If you have any information, please call dispatch at 228-868-5959 or you can always call Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers.

Monday’s deadly shooting is the second one at Emerald Pines in just about a month. Four people were arrested after 29-year-old Trevor Walker was shot and killed at the complex on May 18th.

Neighbors at Emerald Pines Apartments did not want to go on camera, but said they are tired of the violence and want it to stop.
